The Paldrum®05 allows for the filling and packaging of bulk bags and 55-gallon barrels on the same powder filling line. Industrial automation allows for pallet feeding, container conveying, dosing and weighing of the products and the container to be filled.
The integrated D14 screw feeder uses dual screws independently driven for high fill rates with accuracy via gain in weight load cells under the station. To ensure good flow control and maximum precision, the dual screw feeder makes use of an integrated agitator to provide smooth bulk material flow.
The Palamatic Process pre-weigh systems are accurate to +/- 1% of the target fill weight for bulk bags and barrels. A digital scale display provides accurate fill rates in real time.
The entire filling system is mounted onto a support structure. A dust tight connection is made via an inflatable bladder on the discharge end of the filling head. An operator makes the connection between the bulk bag fill spout, or inner barrel liner, and signals the controls to inflate the seal.
For bulk bags, the operator simply hangs the bulk bag handles on the forks of the support structure. For barrels with no inner bag, an adaptor plate can be integrated onto the fill station. This would allow a cover lid to be placed over the top of the barrel for dust containment. The conveyor underneath the fill station has an automatic height adjustment via a pneumatic cylinder. The bulk bag, or barrel, is raised to an ergonomic level to allow the operator to easily make the secure connections. The conveyor is lowered at the end of the filling cycle.
Once the connection is established, the operator signals the system to commence with the filling cycle. At the end of the bulk material filling cycle, the seal deflates and the conveyor moves the container to a buffer storage area. An operator can seal the bag, cap the barrel and use the vacuum lifting station to safely and efficiently move the filled barrel to its pallet for transport. For bulk bags, a forklift operator can remove the bag on its pallet or by its handles.
The different possible configurations of the PalDrum®04 model:
Ref. | Integrated Equipment | Functions | Advantages | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Choice 1 | I | Inflatable seal | Secure connection to inner liner / inlet spout | Maximum confinement |
C | Cover lid | Dust containment of open barrels | Ergonomic design, various barrel sizes | |
Choice 2 | Loss | Loss in weight | Accurate preparation of the material | Accelerated rate (dosing in hidden time) / may requite double check weighing |
Gain | Gain in weight | Weighing of the entire container and contents | Commercial weighing, traceability | |
Vacuum lift station | V | Suction Cup Head | Lift Sealed Barrels up to 200 lbs | Efficiency and safe operation |
Our PalDrum®05 packaging machine is configurable by modulating the possible basic equipment: choice 1 + choice 2.
Exemple of possible reference: PalDrum®05-I-V-Loss
Weighing choices:
Choice 2: 2 weighing modes:
As with all PalDrum® stations, the weighing technology can be selected according to your throughput.:
- Gain-in-weight: for weighing barrels during filling (IPFA commercial weighing certification)
- Loss-in-weight: for weighing your products upstream and checking the weight after packaging on a secondary conveyor (IPFA commercial weighing certification)
Handling of barrels
The PalDrum®05 dosing station is designed to be implemented on your packaging line with conveyors. Solutions of barrel manipulators by suction cup can be placed at the outlet of the conveyor to ensure the palletization of the barrels.
Operational Sequence
-
The material is prepared in the powder dosing dual screw feeder. (Operation can be done in parallel with barrel preparation to improve global flow rate of PalDrum® 05)
-
The operator connects the inner liner (or bulk bag feed spout) to the inflatable clamping seal. For barrels with no liner, a pneumatic cylinder with cover lid is lowered onto a resting position over the drum for dust containment.
-
High flow auger (primary): The material is dosed into the bulk container on load cells.
-
Precision auger (secondary): The material nears target weight causing the automatic switching from the high flow auger to precision auger for accuracy.
-
Target weight is reached, dual screw feeder shuts off.
-
The inflatable seal (or cover lid) releases its connection to the barrel / bulk bag.
-
The motorized roller conveyor moves the filled container to its temporary buffer position.
-
For barrels, the operator caps the filled container and safely transfers it using the vacuum lift equipment. For bulk bags, a forklift operator removes it from the line for storage or shipment.
-
The conveyor transfers the next container to be filled under the filling station.
