Some applications require optimal hygienic and sanitary conditions to avoid risk of:
- Bacteriological contamination
- Batch cross contamination linked to allergens
- Batch cross contamination linked to markers (aromas, pigments, organic / non-organic)
- Chemical incompatibility
Depending on the technology and industry (food & feed, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, etc.), several cleaning solutions are possible depending on the type of mixer being used.
1. Vertical mixer
Designed for baby food applications or flavor-based preparations , the vertical mixer allows access to the interior for dry or wet cleaning.
This type of mixer is suitable for dry, wet or viscous products.
It can be cleaned in place (CIP) using washing nozzles (possibility of detergent or rinsing product as needed).
Its non-retention design limits operator intervention during cleaning phases.
2. Horizontal paddle mixer
The horizontal paddle mixer is versatile and offers short mixing cycles for high homogeneity.
It can be cleaned in place (CIP) using washing nozzles (possibility of detergent or rinsing product as needed). Operator access is still necessary for cleaning.
Some operators simply do a manual scan between each batch / production run.

3. Container mixer
The advantage of the container mixer is to use IBC type storage vessels holding a complete batch of all the components of the recipe.
The IBC container is then blended using a rotary mixer to provide homogeneity of the recipe.
Therefore, there is no cross-contamination between batch transfers because each IBC container corresponds to a separate batch.
IBC containers can be washed automatically (CIP) to ensure impeccable hygienic operation. Preparation / dosing and cleaning times can be done between or during mixing operations.

4. ECD mixer - Easy Clean Design
The Easy Clean mixer with extractable shaft is intended for frequent cleaning (dry or wipe down).
Its design, with extraction of the mixing tools, allows operator access to each part of the mixer as well as the mixing tools to facilitating washing operations.
