Animal feed mixing process

Optimization of the preparation of product mixes in animal nutrition using the DosingMatic® Master with 24 load cells.

Introduction

Animal nutrition is a complex and essential field for ensuring the health and productivity of farm animals. The preparation of suitable product mixes, composed of minerals, vitamins, trace elements and other ingredients, is crucial to meet the specific needs of different animal species.

Context

The producing company in the animal nutrition sector, manufactures feed for various animal species such as cattle, pigs, poultry. Preparing suitable product mixes is a major challenge for this company in order to guarantee the quality of its food and meet the nutritional requirements of animals. Among the ingredients used in these product mixes, we find:

  • Minerals: calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, chlorine, etc.
  • Vitamins: vitamins A, D, E, K, as well as group B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12).
  • Trace elements: iron, copper, zinc, manganese, iodine, selenium, cobalt, etc.
  • Amino acids: lysine, methionine, threonine, tryptophan, etc.
  • Enzymes: phytases, xylanases, amylases, proteases, etc.
  • Probiotics, prebiotics and other functional additives.

Problematic

The company encountered difficulties in the manual preparation of its product mixes, due to the complexity of the formulations of the ingredient mixtures and the need to respect precise dosages for each formulation. Feeding errors were common, leading to feed quality problems and raw material losses. Additionally, the manual process was slow and labor-intensive.

Solution : installation of the DosingMatic® Master

The company decided to opt for the DosingMatic® Master to automate the preparation of its product mixes and improve the quality and efficiency of its production. The DosingMatic® Master, composed of 6 modules (24 load cells), has been integrated into the company's production process and manages the different sizes of doses and premixes required, in addition to other "filler" products and liquids injected directly into mixers or coaters.

Results :

Since adopting the DosingMatic® Master, the company has seen several significant improvements in its production:

  1. Precision and quality of product mixes: the DosingMatic® Master ensured precise and repeatable dosing of ingredients, thus improving the quality of product mixes and, consequently, animal feed.

  2. Efficiency and speed of production: automation of the dosing process has made it possible to accelerate the preparation of product mixes and increase the production rate. The formulation and mixing line (mixing tower) has been optimized, allowing better management of raw material flows and significant time savings.

  3. Reduction of costs and waste: thanks to the dosing precision offered by the DosingMatic® Master, the company was able to reduce raw material losses linked to dosing errors and thus reduce its production costs. In addition, the automation of the process by Pal’Touch® automaton supervision made it possible to reduce the necessary labor and optimize human resources management.

  4. Traceability and regulatory compliance: The DosingMatic® Master also allows you to keep a precise history of dosages and formulations used, thus facilitating the traceability of animal feed and compliance with current regulations.

Conclusion :

The adoption of the DosingMatic® Master by this animal nutrition company made it possible to optimize the preparation of its product mixes and improve the quality of its animal feed. Thanks to this automated solution, the company was also able to increase its production efficiency, reduce its costs and ensure better traceability of its products.

This case study shows how the DosingMatic® Master can be a key solution for companies in the animal nutrition sector, wishing to optimize their production process and guarantee the quality of their animal feed.
